Helicobacter pylori Infection Enhances W-Methyl-./V-nitrosourea-induced Stomach Carcinogenesis in the Mongolian Gerbil

چکیده
No previous report has demonstrated the relationship between Helico bacter pylori (HP) infection and gastric carcinogenesis in an experimental animal model. A total of 170 male Mongolian gerbils (MGs) were divided into nine groups (18 S n S 20 for each group). MGs of four groups were inoculated with HP before or after continuous A'-methyl-A'-nitrosourea (MNU) administration via the drinking water. Both intestinal-type and diffuse-type adenocarcinomas, including signet ring-cell carcinomas, were found at 40 weeks after the study commenced, but only in the HP inoculation groups with MNU exposure and not in the MNU alone or HP inoculation alone control groups. The present findings demonstrate that HP infection increases the incidence of MNU-induced adenocarcinoma of the glandular stomach in MGs.

To investigate the nature of the link between Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection and stomach carcinogenesis, a study of the glandular stomach of Mongolian gerbils (MGs) was performed. MGs were treated with N-methyl-N-nitrosourea (MNU), followed by inoculation with Hp (groups 1 and 2) or without Hp (group 3), or infected with Hp (groups 4 and 5) or inoculation without Hp (group 6) followed by MN...
متن کاملHelicobacter pylori infection enhances glandular stomach carcinogenesis in Mongolian gerbils treated with chemical carcinogens.
Helicobacter pylori (Hp) is thought to be a stomach carcinogen from epidemiological findings. To determine the effects of infection with the bacteria on experimental carcinogenesis, a study of the glandular stomach of Mongolian gerbils (MGs) was performed. Male MGs were treated with N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine followed by inoculation with Hp or infected with Hp followed by N-methyl-N'-...
متن کاملPitavastatin fails to lower serum lipid levels or inhibit gastric carcinogenesis in helicobacter pylori-infected rodent models.
Statins are commonly used lipid-lowering drugs that reduce the risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Although recent studies have pointed to chemopreventive effects of statins against various cancers, their efficacy for gastric cancer is unclear. Here, we examined the effects of pitavastatin, a lipophilic statin, on Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori)-associated stomach carcinogenesis and...
متن کاملVirulence Factors of Helicobacter pylori Responsible for Gastric Diseases in Mongolian Gerbil
Helicobacter pylori infection induces various gastroduodenal diseases. We examined the role of two genes, vacA and cagE, in the gastric pathogenesis induced by H. pylori using a long-term (62 wk) animal model. Reportedly, both genes are associated with the virulence of H. pylori: vacA encodes vacuolating cytotoxin, and cagE, with other genes in the cag pathogenicity islands, encodes a type IV s...
